Summary: 

The Director – Business Development identifies, develops and implements a proactive business development program that includes business retention/expansion and business attraction activities that result in the creation and retention of jobs and increased tax base in Putnam County.

Primary Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, developing and directing an effective program of direct outreach, communications, support services and technical problem solving to support the growth of existing Putnam County businesses, support of business recruitment activities and marketing initiatives, and coordination of partner resources to bring business and economic development projects to fruition.

 

Specific Responsibilities

Assist in the implementation of the Strategic Plan for the Chamber Economic Development programs, events, and initiatives. 

Develop strong relationships with existing Chamber members and partnerships with non-Chamber members.

Implement a formal Business Retention & Expansion (BRE) Program and conduct visits to survey of existing businesses & industries. It is expected that the Director – Business Development will schedule 75-100 business visitations annually.

Assist VP-Economic Development on Attraction Projects and Marketing Putnam County as a “place to do business”.

Maintains knowledge of state, local and other incentives and their eligibility requirements that may be available to existing businesses to support their growth and expansion.

Understands and utilizes industry, demographic, real estate, and workforce data to respond to requests for information.

Serves as the Putnam County Chamber liaison to local workforce development service providers to support workforce development and skills training for Putnam County industries.

Help to generate content for website, brochures, publications, social media, etc. by working with other team members to identify editorial and promotion needs, writing content, and editing.

Attends and supports Chamber events, programs, and initiatives including regular attendance at targeted/specific events. 

Assists fellow team members in carrying out their duties whenever necessary. 

Responsible for special projects as assigned.

Education and Experience Requirements:

• Sales experience preferred.   

• College degree preferred.  Certifications acceptable.

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

• Exceptional communications, writing, and editing skills. 

• Excellent listening and professional customer service skills

• Ability to work effectively with all levels of internal and external associates/customers.

• Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with all levels within the organization.

• Ability to follow through on issues, make informed decisions that comply with policies and procedures, complete tasks and problem-solve.

• Ability to manage multiple priorities.

• Possess intermediate to advanced level knowledge of Microsoft Office software applications.

• Ability to work with minimal supervision.

Salary/Benefits/Incentives:

Salary commensurate with qualifications, experience, skills, and ability.  Salary range $70,000 - $80,000.  Excellent benefits package available. Putnam County Chamber of Commerce is an equal opportunity employer.
