To financially assist economic development professionals working to advance their career by attending the Basic Economic Development Course on November 13-16, 2012 in Tampa, FL.
The Basic Economic Development Course (BEDC) focuses on the fundamental concepts, tools and skills needed to be successful in today’s political, economic and business environment. The BEDC will provide the participant with a comprehensive understanding of the keys of successful economic development. Applicants must be a member of the Florida Economic Development Council, Inc. (FEDC) in good standing and submit a completed online scholarship application by Friday, October 5, 2012.
Applicant must currently hold a position in economic development in the State ofFlorida; demonstrate a financial need (i.e. limitations in training budget), and be a member or staff person in an FEDC member organization.
The FEDC Vice Chairman of Professional Development shall take part in and oversee the judging process by selecting a committee to assist in reviewing the applications. The Chairman of Professional Development and the scholarship committee will select up to three (3) recipients based on the information provided no later than Friday, October 19, 2012. (Note: If financial or other need is not sufficiently demonstrated, it is possible for no recipients to be selected.)
Phone and formal letter will notify scholarship recipients. Formal letter will notify non-recipients.
The Birdsall Scholarship will be in the amount of the course registration fee only and will be disbursed to the scholarship recipient upon completion of the course. All other expenses attached to attendance at the conference (i.e. hotel, rental car, airline flight, etc.) are the responsibility of the scholarship winner. The recipient must provide FEDC with a receipt of registration fees paid in order to be reimbursed.
The scholarships are given in honor of M.D. “Mickie” Birdsall. Mickie served the Florida Economic Development Council, Inc. in every major role, including President in 1978. She also represented Florida on the Southern Industrial Development Council’s Board of Directors in 1978-1980.
